Bicycle Safety

Bicycling is a pastime of many people in the Untied States. People bicycle in mountains, on the beach, and, of course, on and near roads. Because people ride their bicycles near streets, they risk getting into car accidents.

Cars can hit bicycles for a number of reasons.

  • Car drivers can be drunk and lose control of the car. Consequently, a bicyclist nearby may be hit.
  • Someone may be driving in the dark and may not see a bicyclist close by. The driver of the car may accidently hit the bicyclist.
  • A bicyclist may be driving in a bicycle lane while a nearby car attempts to turn right. The bicyclist may be in the driver’s blind spot, and the driver might hit the bicyclist when turning right.
To avoid such dangerous, deadly accidents and minimize the damage they cause, bicyclists can do a number of things. They can attach flashing lights to the fronts and backs of their bicycles. They can also put horns on their bicycles to attract attention to themselves. Additionally, bicyclists should avoid driving on the road, especially in the middle lane. Another step that bicyclists can take is wearing helmets that having blinking lights on them.

Everybody wants to have a safe and fun and bicycling experience. Practicing the above techniques can help ensure that biking can be both safe and fun. Aside from having a safe biking experience, though, it is also important to protect your bike by using a bike lock. The right bike lock can ensure that your bike is protected whenever you need to leave it in a public area.
